Last January 16, I had the opportunity to cover the wedding of Yahon and Jhune. Yahon is one of the staff of CBN Asia's humanitarian arm, Operation Blessing. The only problem was that I was just in the third day of getting the flu. By God's grace, I was able to rest for two days and when the wedding date arrived, I was strong enough to shoot.
Below are my favorite photos of the event. I was able to make do with the limited location and hopefully, provide the couple with memorable photos.
The photo below is one I made while Yahon was still at the hotel. I think the green wall in this instance complemented well in the photograph. I shot this with a flash reflecting off an umbrella on a stand to camera right.
This one was shot just off the side of the door at the hallway. I had Yahon lean on the wall. Too bad that there was a light switch and emergency lights that can be seen in this image. This one can be remedied in Photoshop.
This next shot was made at the hotel's lobby which is very modest in terms of the decoration but reasonable enough. The photo was made with available light coming from the hotel's entrance. The light was very good as the door used frosted glass, thereby diffusing the light.
For the next photo below, you may or may not like it, but I like it. To wring a few more shots from the hotel, I had Yahon stand in front of the entrance doors and used the on-camera flash to overpower the light coming from outside. I intentionally overexposed the background to give it a different feel.
The image below is the formal shot of the couple immediately after the ceremony. The church where it was held had a nice altar. I used an off-camera flash for this one reflecting off the umbrella on a stand. I then "dragged" the shutter to let as much ambient light I can manage without blurring the image due to camera shake (plus the fact that I was getting exhausted as I was starting not to feel well.)
In this next shot, I had the couple move to the cross that was standing at the side of the church and shot again with the same setup as the photo above.
The last shot you will see below is the full image that I used for the masthead of this post. Allow me to add that this maybe one of my better shots of the throwing the dove part of the program. I used my 12-24mm f/4 lens for this shot at 12mm. The shot was so wide that I did not notice one of the bridesmaid getting included in the shot.
Surprisingly, I still had enough strength to walk to the shuttle terminal after shooting the wedding. The walk to the terminal was not short. When we got home, I was busted. I was out for another 5 working days. At least I was able to honor my commitment to the couple. As the saying goes, "the show must go on."
