Blogger Must Have: Google Analytics Part 2
I check out Google Analytics all day (maybe at night too!) from Monday to Friday. Sometimes even on weekends. Why? Oversee quite a few sites AND I love seeing my traffic grow.
Growing traffic is a huge motivator me and Google Analytics lets me know if its growing (or not). When I started my blog nearly three years ago, i knew I had to have Google Analytics installed so that I could monitor the site for the many metrics it provided.
At any rate, Google Analytics showed me what I needed to do. I found what people wanted to see from my site. I was getting to know my audience.
For a little bit of history, in October 2009, the first month I had the Google Analytics script installed, I had 66 unique visits (I’ll explain my personal interpretation of unique visits in a separate post). I think was so happy then. hehehe. The next month my traffic increased to 82 uniques. December 2009 went down to 56. January 2010 wan;t good either, only 38 uniques.
By June 2010, it was so bad I hit only 10 unique visits (click on the image above to see for yourself.) I got lazy posting stories. I may have been too busy with my full-time job but that was no excuse. Exactly a year after starting, in October 2010, I made a conscious decision to increase the number of posts I will make and that month my unique visits jumped to 131. I never looked back.
Today, my monthly traffic averages between 900 to 1600 unique visits a month. I know I can do more to increase but that would mean I would be neglecting other parts of my life. Hey I still had a full time job that feeds my family.
At any rate, Google Analytics showed me what I needed to do. I found what people wanted to see from my site. I was getting to know my audience. That is why this little piece of a web app is soooo important to me. I hope it would be important to you too!
